It has been my pleasure working with the Cinesamples to develop sample libraries such as their freebie triangle, Hollywoodwinds, and now their latest Djembe sample library. I’m particularly excited about the Cinesamples Djembe because it utilizes Kontakt scripting to create a great extent of customizability and ease of use. I wanted to review some of its features to explain how sampling has been taken to the next step with this newly-released djembe library.

Next Generation Sampling
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009Strawberry Rhythm Electric Guitar
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009A big deficiency in sampled guitars right now is their rhythm guitar capabilities. Strumming guitar usually takes a lot of sequencing work–you first have to find the notes equivalent to the voicing on a real guitar. The notes then need to be staggered in the order of the pick direction to create a realistic strum, since all the notes in the chord are not played at exactly the same time. Also, when strumming, depending on where the accents in the pattern are, not all the strings are strummed.
Free Kontakt Timer Utility
Monday, October 19th, 2009
The Orange Tree Samples Timer is a useful utility for composers and Kontakt script writers. It serves the basic purpose of keeping track of how much time you work. Included is an NKI which can be loaded into Kontakt and saved in your DAW, or even loaded into a script slot in Kontakt. The OTS Timer is handy because it will automatically load within your song or NKI project–no need to run external time recording software.
3rd Place: Bill Davies – Up and Running
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009“What I liked about using the Cherry bass on this tune (and several other works in progress) is that it sits well in the mix with little treatment, has great natural sustain, and has plenty of upper mids that can be brought out with EQ for some edge and spark if the tune calls for it. Great articulations too.” – Bill Davies
